Change

I've been thinking about something for a while and I'd like some feedback.

There are those things that people do that they've always done. It's a part of who they are. Some characteristics feel as much a part of us as our eye color. Because of that, I believe it's sometimes hard to push ourselves beyond our point of comfort and take a good hard look at what we do. I think it's easy to stay where we are because change is extremely difficult.

That being said, how do you feel about the phrase "I've always been that way and I always will be!"?

It sounds to me like a declaration of intent.

Yes, I agree.

Would you mind expanding on that thought a bit?

I read your blog, and I've kind of walked your journey with you. I too was married to a man and had an affair with a woman. I too was excommunicated. Your question is one I have thought about before. I think people use it as a way out. An excuse to keep being stupid. I know I did. The thought that you can't change is foolish. Some things you really can't change (like being gay), but most things, you can change if you really want to.

Thank you, Annetta. I agree wholeheartedly. If something is damaging a relationship, it just makes sense to try to change it no matter how long it's been a part of your life. IF the relationship is important enough. IF it is truly love. IF it's really worth the effort.

"If you really want to."

Yeah, makes sense.
